An open letter to Action buses rgarding their new network

Posted on 2008.05.20 at 16:41
L'endroit: Not on a bus!
Humeur actuelle: angry
Dear Action Buses,

I am a constant user of your bus services, I do not drive and so I buy weekly or monthly tickets and travel on your buses nearly 365 days a year, and as one who lives in the Inner North I usually have no problems with the timetables or bus services. However, after reading the new timetables for June 2008 I have to say I am beyond disappointed and a little confused. I live in Downer and travel every day to Deakin. I catch the 39 (which is always full and quite often has to refuse passengers entry due to this.) This bus alone is always late and now there will be only one service to Watson, meaning twice the custom on a service that nearly always has to cease picking up passengers.

I then catch the 30- or if I absolutely have to the 31- to Deakin. So it was to my surprise and consternation that I read the new timetables to see that not only had the 30 buses ceased from Civic to Woden, thereby excluding a faster service to Deakin, Curtin etc but essentially the bus route 2 is a combination of the 38 and the 31. The 38 is definitely an extraordinarily well used service (always full) particularly during peak hour, and the 31 is a slower service that passes through Yarralumla. The 30 was a more direct route that used main arterial roads for a DIRECT route (admittedly passing through Russell, but this was still faster then using the 31). So not only have you reduced the services available to anyone who works in Deakin, Russell, Curtin etc you have also dramatically increased our travel time.

If you have made these decisions based on the assumption that passengers only travel from Giralang to Civic and no further, or that there are a huge amount of passengers striving to get to Yarralumla you are sadly mistaken. Of the two buses-the 30 and the 31- the 30 has more passengers on the bus during peak hour and when it isn't a peak time the 31 is virtually deserted. So again I fail to understand the logic with which you have removed the fastest way from point A to point B to replace it with a bus journey that is slower and longer and ill timed. All the buses travelling in this direction now depart at the times of the previous 31, if not earlier. If someone is travelling from outer suburbs or the inner North to Civic and then to Deakin the buses now travel earlier, and with connection buses this now places an even longer wait between buses, or makes it near impossible to arrive at work on time.

Why was the 30 bus, a more direct and faster route removed to be replaced with a longer service that is not a direct route that is a very obvious combination of the current 38 which already has more passengers then they know what to do with, the much slower 31- a much less direct route. Are your timetables made by someone who actually catches the services or by one of the "no one catches the buses" crew that are found throughout Canberra. In my office alone 25% of us use public transport to get to work. This means that now with the new timetables and route 25% of the workplace will have the possibility of being late or unable to arrive to work at a prescribed time because the buses that have previously serviced the areas will be either stopped or travelling the "scenic route".

Speaking with other members of the public that use this bus service has shown me exactly how the new timetables are not going to work for the people that need them most. Are there any changes that are going to be made? Are the services going to be made more relevant for passengers? Or is the new timetable merely a mishmash of bus route mergers so that someone out there can show a bureaucrat behind a desk some where-who probably drives to work every day- the buses are being used more because the population using the buses has been made more concentrated?
I am very interested in your reply

Anonymous Purple Designs can be found at http://www.cafepress.com/purpleanon. It is my photography and it is an experiment. Of course to make it truly work I need to get it detected by google. Having troubles doing that at the moment. Sure I will figure it out eventually.

Anyways have a look around the site and let me know what you think

So this is Gungahlin/Forde...or Bonner whichever. From CCSERAC website.

Cats
Cats
For many of us, cats are loved companions, and simply members of the family.

However, there is little doubt that cats do not belong in places like nature reserves.

For this reason, the new suburbs of Forde and Bonner, which lie on the border of Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve, are declared 'Cat Containment Zones'.

According to the Domestic Animals (Cat Containment) Amendment Act 2005, this means that at all times, cats in Forde and Bonner must be confined to a completely or partly enclosed space from which a cat cannot escape (a building or part of a building, a vehicle or a cat cage).

Even if you don't live in these suburbs, you can do your bit for local wildlife by either keeping your cat indoors at all times, or by always keeping an eye on them when they are outside. Do keep cats inside at night, as this is their favourite time for hunting down some tasty snacks.

So if there are cat containment zones I think that there should be dog containment zones. They harass people, chase other animals, attack, eat, destroy environment (cats at least have the decency to cover their faeces), by defacaeting in public, digging holes that they don't fill in. I wonder what would happen if there were dog "containment areas" public outcry?

My cat doesn't go out at night (I don't let her out at night), I think it is just common sense. Cats are nocturnal they eat things at night. Only an irresponsible cat owner lets their cat out at night.

And why do real estate agents advertise houses as "family" but then say no pets. Makes no sense to me at all.

Must be part of the plan to turn people into cat haters, or see if socialisation can assist in there being more humans unable to understand, empathise or like animals. Think of what can be done with people like that eh?

Houses and Housing

Ok so I am looking for a property in Kamberra. Exciting you say. Sure I LIKE looking at over priced underspaced apartments, units or houses that don't believe in animals.

So I thought I would look at similar prices in Newcastle. If I paid the same prices I though surely I could get better stuff there. NO! It would appear that they are just as pricey with the upper being that they are near the beach and walking distance to most anything.

Of course standard the further out to the burbs you go the lesser it gets. This was merely the city centre. But there is a 2 bedroom unit across the road from where I used to live when living by myself in a 1 beddy that cost 120 a week (and that was stretching my income at that point) that costs merely 230 a week. Where the property that I have applied for in Kamberra is further out of the city (by comparison) and costs 30 dollars more.....

My first house out of home is currently for lease. For 280 dollars I remember when that was way too much money. He he Very amusing to me.

Like my mum says maybe I am just at that point in my life where I want something of my own. Pity I don't have the deposit or the funds to pay off a mortgage (anyone ever notice that mort-gage has death in it?). Gage of DEATH!

Even more amusing is I just got a lecture about how much money I could spend on rent and how rent money is dead money bleh bleh bleh. As far as I am concerned buying a house and paying off a mortgage is like paying rent to the bank.

Anyways back to waiting to hear from expensive house number two and er working.

The queen of purple has the right to declare war on all persons who descrate the thought, need and beliefs behind purple and all other colours in the dichotomous key of purple, which she freely admits unfortunately includes lilac and mauve.
She must protect at all costs the furthering of the standing of purple and in some cases the meaning of purple. This does not mean she must become purple but she shares the ideas of purple and is slightly interested in integrating mahoganey.

I live for purple breathe for green and occasionally contemplate red, or blue if I am in a dire a spot. Though mostly my colourful roots can be hidden by my current attachment to black. But as decreed in decree 7342 of the land of purple, auburgine is almost black so black in essence can be accepted as purple.

So weird enough for you?

My hand hurts.

I played touch footy for the first time in 2.5 months seems that I have developed the distinct inability to CATCH THE BALL. And no I wasn't off with the faeries.

Oh and my cat doesn't hate me as I thought she might. Major sook she is though. I came home to find her sleeping near Mij looking pitiful. If I see some Marlin I may have to spoil her.

I entered a competition today to spirit myself away to multiple stars of hotelness in Melbourne. So who to take with me if I win?
